The only way out is through.

I find myself struggling a bit lately in my photographic endeavors.  I just can’t seem to find my eye.  It’s true that I’ve been trying to learn more technically but I think this has caused me to overthink my photos.  A few posts ago I wrote about my son using my old camera, these are some of the photos he’s taken.  These are all SOOC (straight out of the camera) and I think they are pretty good.

I’ve spent the last week or so just shooting anything and everything and I’ve gotten some good shots.  I’m trying to remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect as long as I like it.

I really want to thank my son for reminding me that this hobby that I so love should be about having fun and expressing myself.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend!

It’s just me

I love to receive feedback on the photos I make.  Lately, though, I have been craving some constructive criticism.  It’s hard to give criticism, I know this.  Especially criticism that is specific enough.  I’d love to know if you feel the same way and if you have any ideas where I might find a safe place for constructive criticism.  Of course, I would welcome any CC from you.

Hand Me Down

This is my 12-year-old son.  He is lying on the floor on his back in order to make a photograph.  I don’t know what he was shooting all I know is that he is joyous in the making of the image.  I mentioned before that I got a new camera recently.  My original plan was to sell my “old” camera to help offset the cost of the new camera.  However, as soon as he found out I was getting the new one he didn’t stop asking to try the old one.  Then I let him try.  And my heart sang.  He has read the manual completely.  I can’t believe his “eye”, his vision of the world, it is inspiring.  I love having something to connect with him about-he is a pre-teen, after all.  This mama is proud.

I hope your day is filled with joy, laughter and glorious weather.

Way back when

When I began this blog in January I had just started Project 365 on January 1st, 2009.  At the end of December beginning of January I quit a job I loved, we moved across the country, moved into a new house, started the kids in new schools and I started my search for a new job.  I’m not sure why I thought it would be doable for me to keep up with a daily photo project.  Well, it wasn’t.  Something had to give and this project was what gave.  Now, some two months later, I am coming up for air.  I have a new job, the kids are settled, we are settled and I have a new camera (yay!)  In this space I will make no more promises about the frequency of the photos I make and post-too much pressure.

Here’s to a new beginning.

Chicago, April 2009

Chicago, April 2009

Chicago is one of my favorite cities.  It is a four-hour train ride from my town.  On my most recent visits I had the most fun walking around the city making photos and doing a bit of shopping.  The weather was very nice, thank goodness.
